"Natural history is the scientific study of plants and animals in their natural environments. It is concerned with levels of organization from the individual organism to the ecosystem, and stresses identification, life history, distribution, abundance, and inter-relationships. It often and appropriately includes an esthetic component." (Herman, 2002. J. Wildl. Manage. 66: 933-946)
In line with this definition, you may expect photographs of all nature on this website; the only restriction is that the topic must be visible to the unaided eye. Geographically, my photos are mostly from Holland and from various places in Europe and Turkey; but I also made some trips to more exotic places. Since I always have had a penchant for insects, much of this site is dedicated to them. But from 2013 onwards, I broadened my scope and developed a taste for lichens, then fungi in general. Next, I organized my incidental photos of plants in a systematic overview. In autumn 2016, I organized my photos showing ecological interactions, and in March 2017 my photos on geological phenomena. The name of this website thus has become more and more appropriate.
