We planned a two-day trip to Acıgöl, with a stay-over near Salda Gölü, a crater lake with a beautiful blue color, due to the high Mg content of the water, although it is still considered a fresh-water lake. I remembered Acıgöl from my trip in 2012, a time I focussed much on insects. From that trip I remembered Acıgöl to be a soda lake, with a vegetation adapted to the salt content of the soils bordering the lake - specifically, I remembered a species of Artemisia, resembling the Dutch species specific for sal-water vegetation. In the end, the two-day trip turned out to be very productive in terms of plants, as well as our first experience with the extremely rich Turkish countryside breakfast. This page refers to the various sites we visited on our way to Salda Gölü.
