| Gorges have a special appeal to many people, in part doubtlessly because of the often dramatic landscapes. But gorges are also attractive to botanists as they are home to chasmophytes, plants that grow on rock faces. Gorges often form through the abrasive working of water on limestone, and where there is predictable water, there is normally human presence. This gorge is no exception, with the presence of a little chapel, the Church of Saint Nicholas the Kourtaliotiko. As a collateral advantage, there is a well-paved path to the chapel deep down in the gorge. |
