North of Geysir, the road turns into a gravel road that leads into the 'desert'. Continuing along this road, once comes close to the lake Hvitárvatn, which derives its water from the Langjökull glacier. This area is again an ideal place for finding artic lichens such as Umbilicaria. Remarkably, these were also quite a few moths flying in the strong winds.
