From þingvellir one can go north on a road that after a few miles turns into a gravel road. This road leads into wide landscapes of what is known as the 'desert'. This refers not to the absence of precipitation - there is plenty of that! However, the vegetation is as sparse as one might expect from a proper desert... Yet this is fertile hunting grounds for some nice lichens: the Rock tripes! |
