Natural History Photographs

After the morning visit to Güímar, we tried to locate a trail just south of Güímar, as this area has some botanical fame. We couldn't locate the trail though, and the whole area is full of houses, making this an unattractive site to look for plants and lichens. So in the end we drove quite far south along the TF-28, to stop somewhere just north of Arico Viejo. The location didn't look particularly promising either, but at least we could park the car in a safe spot and there weren't any houses nearby. The thermophilous scrub vegetation in winter time has several flowering plants and under them I looked for soil crusts. Due to recent rain fall, there were even some green and fresh liverworts.
