The middle of Lesbos features the large gulf of Kalloni, where salt is being produced. The marshes and saltpans that form the northern edge of the gulf are well-known for their rich birdlife. And indeed, when we arrived, already in the dark, I could see Flamingos fairly close to the road! Since this seemed a good opportunity for bird photography, we visited this area often just before and after we got off to some destination. When we arrived, there was a strong northern wind, which kept the birds that already had arrived in the area. As long as we stayed in the car, we could approach various birds at fairly close range; out of the car this was much more difficult.
