The river Geul (Zuid-Limburg, the Netherlands), a typical lowland river, meanders through its stream bed. In winter, the water level may rise so high that the river inundates the flood plain. The fine silt suspended in the water then settles, bringing a layer of fresh sediment raising the flood plain. The Geul is a meandering river. |
