| The second day we went to another orchid hotspot, the olive groves near Agiasos. Of the many orchids advertised in the natural history guide, I was most keen to find the horseshoe orchid - but to not avail. Luckily another highlight unexpectedly replaced it, the mirror orchid, which is a truly superb orchid. When we returned we found some spectacularly colored millipeds, as well as my first scorpion outdoors! (the first one I found in my bedroom in Albania...). Was the glass half full or half empty? I'm inclined to think more like three-quarter full... But after one day I felt I could still find some more plants, so we returned 5 April for a shorter second visit. |
