Vistas from Hasliberg

Rhone glacier
The fresh snow (winter and spring 2008) has a slight pink coloration. This coloration is apparently due to a green alga, Chlamydomonas nivalis. This unicellular alga has red pigments that protect it against stong UV radiation.
