Yukansalat (Diyarbakir), Turkey | |

Halfway between Bismil and Batman, near Yukansalat, we stopped for lunch close to a small river. The floodplain of the river was still inundated and this made a nice habitat for dragonflies. Flowering Tamarisks attracted various bees and wasps; some other insects were present as well. |

The whitish tip at the underside of the antenna was very conspicuous - much more in real life than on the photo. The ID of this wasp is rather uncertain. If correct, the species is probably new to Turkey. However, there is a decent possibility it is in another genus. |

A very large robber fly - though the photo doesn't convey its size too well. To put it into perspective: when I spotted the fly it had caught a specimen of the dragonfly, Crocothemis erythraea (see above), quite a large and powerful predator itself! |
