Bear Lake Overview
15 August 2017

Second day of our drive from Kanab to Yellowstone. Since we couldn't arrive early at our next destination in West Yellowstone, we took a detour via the highway 89. This highway ascends to some 2325m elevation before descending to the Bear Lake. At the pass there is a rest area, were we paused for half an hour or so. A feeder for hummingbirds was used by some rufous hummingbirds, which intermittently rested nearby the feeder and then approached it to feed. Alternatively, they were chasing each other. Nevertheless I could take a few nice photos of them. I also had my first opportunity to make photos of the white-faced hornet, Dolichovespula maculata.
