Valle d'Aosta, Italy
Colle di Gran San Bernardo
30 July & 3 August 2018
When we arrived in Valle d'Aosta, we took the tunnel rather than the pass, which shortens the journey considerably. But the old road is still functional and easily accesible, and brings one quite high (ca. 2300 m). So to explore the alpine realm, we avoided the tunnel and went all the way to the top, where the border between Italy and France is located. We also took a short look at the French side. There were enough tracks starting from a parking lot to make it worthwhile to revisit this location, which we did on the 3rd of August. I decided to split the presentation of the photos in different pages, roughly corresponding to different stops along the pass.

The map allows you to navigate to the sites I visited in the area of the pass. To get an overview of the landscape and nature at the various sites, hover your cursor over a pin, then click the star that will appear.
