| After a visit to the somewhat manicured ancient olive tree, we looked for a somewhat less touristic location. A small winding road led to some ruins before it ended in a track, which I followed for a few hundred meters. Here I found my first Cretan birthwort (Aristolocia cretica), larval foodplant of the Cretan Festoon we saw the day before. After lunch, I walked back, to look for flowering plants in the phrygana-like vegetation. These tend to be small plants, such as the delightful Cretan plantain, Plantago cretica. |
