| While I choose the destinations of my trips with some care, my planning is always in broad strokes. I only look for suitable day trips once I'm at some location and can better judge the possibiliites. This has its pros and cons. Not planning in advance makes it likely I will miss out on some well-known opportunities. But on the other hand, you may find lesser known locations more easily, and even if you stumble upon a location that is well-known but just not to me, the surprise is all the more pleasant! The Tara River Canyon is a clear example of the latter. It's a very long canyon, and up to 1,300m deeep, providing magnificent views and rich plant life. The cliffs are home to many chasmophyte plants, and even though the gorge is very narrow, one can walk along the cliffs in enough places. All in all, for me this was one of the highlights of Montenegro, exceeding the Biogradska park by far, both for its scenery and the plant life! |
